Entered service October 5, 1942..Trained at Great Lakes Training Sta. Served at Section Base, Mayport, Florida on L.C.S.-118 in Pacific from Pearl Harbor to Eniwetok to Saipan, Okinawa, Philippine Islands and Japan……Ship earned Presidential Unit Citation for heroic work….Put out fire on L.S.T. – 884 after it was hit by suicide plane on first day of invasion of Okinawa…..Shot down four suicide planes in following “Radar Picket Patrol” around the islands……Date of discharge January 1946. New Milford in World War II |
